5 Ways to Prepare Your Home or Office for Your Brand Photo Shoot

For many business owners and entrepreneurs, their home or office is determined to be the best location for their brand photo shoot. Today we’re going to talk about 5 things you can do to prepare your space!

Declutter

Go through your home or office space and remove any clutter in the areas we’ll be using for your photo shoot. If you have file folders or random papers stacked on your desk, go ahead and clear them off. If we need to reintroduce papers as props, we can easily do that. But it’s best to start off with a clean slate!

If we’ll be using your kitchen during your photo shoot, be sure the counters are cleared off. You don’t need every appliance you own out on display!

Clean

Once all of the clutter is removed, be sure to go through and clean the space. If your office has a glass door, be sure it’s completely cleaned off. Clean desktops and counter surfaces. Vacuum, empty trash cans … you get the picture!

Remove Cords & Cables

Look through your space and see if you have cables and cords visible. If power cords are visible for TVs, kitchen appliances, printers, monitors, etc, you can go ahead and unplug all of them unless we’re using one of those items during your photo shoot. They are distracting and not necessary for your photos.

Analyze Personal Effects

It’s completely up to you how many of your personal effects you keep in your images. For example, if you have photos of your children or spouse hanging on your wall or sitting on your desk, it’s up to you how comfortable you feel with their photos being displayed since your images will be public. I know some parents prefer to maintain their children’s privacy. But for others, family members might be a strong part of their brand and so personal effects like that are completely appropriate.

Accessorize

One other thing you can do is accessorize your space to make sure it aligns with your branding if it doesn’t already! So think about the color palette and style of your brand and think about ways you can reinforce that through decor. Maybe you can add accent pillows or a lamp shade that’s in one of your brand colors. Also consider the ways your current decor might clash with your branding. So lets say your brand is all about soft pastels and whimsical fonts but you have a black and gold pendant in your office from your Alma Mater (Go UCF!) – that pendant is going to stick out like a sore thumb!
